Peru’s Most Famous Expat Entrepreneur
Inca Kola. This fluorescent yellow, slightly bubble-gummy flavored soft drink IS Peru. As much as is Machu Picchu, Lake Titicacca, and the mysterious Nazca Lines. And yet, it was invented by a British expat. The excellent En Perú blog has the full, and very interesting, story:
Stepping off a ship in the port of Callao in 1910, a British immigrant couple called the Lindleys were starting a new life in the Americas. Little did they know that they’d become an integral part of Peru’s national identity and create one of the greatest modern Peruvian icons.
