Going Freemium with @TweetSaver

So I recently pushed out a major update to TweetSaver, my app that allows Twitter users to archive, tag, search and share their Tweets. You can read about the details of the update here. The main highlight is that I’ve introduced free accounts to the service. When TweetSaver was originally launched, I was staunchly against giving it away for free. I felt that since I was willing to pay $10/yr, there would probably be others out there who could put that kind of value on it (amongst a lot of other reasons). Of course, hindsight is 20/20 as they say, and it’s clear that this decision cost TweetSaver a lot in terms of customers and scale. The move to Freemium has been interesting… despite the relatively limited feature set for the free account, there has been a large increase in daily signups, mostly for the free service. So far, conversions to paid subscriptions is around 5%. That is a nice conversion rate, but we’re only a few days in and still not talking huge numbers of new customers. I’ll also be interested to see what the over all effect on revenue is, with the addition of ads in the free accounts and all on public pages. Overall, I’m happy with what the move to Freemium has generated… new users. Time will tell how this affects the overall success of the app.
