Dear Recruiters…
… and anyone who happens to be performing a recruiting type function at this moment.
Stop being lazy.
There is this awesome little service called Google. If you put my name in it and hit “Search” you will find everything you need to know about me to pre-qualify (or un-qualify) me for whatever position you are recruiting for.
It really is that simple.
Why do I bring this up? I just recently spent a couple days exchanging emails with a founder of a startup that was looking to hire some developers. After a couple emails, it was pretty clear that this person had made absolutely no effort to sort me out from a huge pool of potential candidates.
My guess is a lot of other people got the same email I did that initiated our conversation.
Had this person Googled me, looked at my LinkedIn, looked at my Twitter, looked at my GitHub account, etc… they probably would have reached the conclusion that I wasn’t the best fit in about 5 minutes instead of 2 days of email exchanges.
Save your time. Save my time. Take 5 minutes up front to do just the slightest bit of research into potential candidates.
