A while back I wrote and open letter to the DFW startup community about what I believe is Launch DFW’s mission. In that, I outlined a few of my ideas for the future of the site. With Startup Weekend Dallas coming up in June, I’m hoping to pitch the idea of building out the new version of Launch DFW to folks that may not want to work on a real “company/startup” idea. To that end, I thought I would repost some of my thoughts/ideas/wants for the new Launch DFW site, and then I’m *really* hoping some of you out there in the community will also post some of your ideas in the comments below! Here is my list:

• built on top of something like Refinery CMS (ruby based backend is a must since I’ll be the main maintainer)
• 100% open source so other communities can use it
• Main landing page that highlights community and the local startups, easy nav to find the main areas of the site
• Crunchbase style directory of Startups, Founders and Investors
• News section (continuation of current blog)
• Resources section - curated list of community resource (coworking, Investor info, programs etc etc)
• Events calendar - I don’t want to really step on the toes of DallasTechScene.com, perhaps some way to collaborate there?
• Community - some time of social element, want something cooler than forums.. wanted? necessary? not sure :-)
