I poured over maps for hours, searching for a spot that (1) appeared to be accessible via 4x4 trail and (2) had a mostly south-facing view of Mt. Hood... then it took a 12-hour day to scout the location and required clearing fallen trees from the trail and trying to outmaneuver clouds of mosquitos. When we finally arrived at the location marked on my map, I almost couldn't believe the view.
